The best day ever!
When I arrived in Florida on Thursday, I was greeted by Nidia Sica. What a lovely face to be greeted by! Nidia accompanied me to the hospital where our birth mom was and I got to meet and hang out with her for several hours. Justin arrived the next morning, I met him at the airport, figured out our car rental stuff and then we headed straight for the hospital. We felt so blessed to be able to get to know our birth mom. Even though we only spent a few days with her, we cherish those days deeply.
After trying to induce her, the decision was made for her to have c-section. Because only one person is allowed in the OR with her, I was very blessed to witness the birth of my son. At 1033 PM on November 6, Jonah Samuel let out his first cry and I saw his gorgeous face for the first time. He had a huge pouty lip that I know we will be seeing for many years to come. He weighed in at 6 lbs 13 ounces and was 19 inches long. He was the most beautiful baby I had ever seen. He had to go to NICU and was there for a week to be monitored. So Justin and I were able to go and see him about an hour after he was born. All of it felt so surreal. We had waited for this moment for so long, and we were actually here. I’m pretty sure I was pinching myself constantly to make sure I wasn’t dreaming.
We got to hold him for the first time on November 8. We couldn’t hold back the tears. It was also on November 8 that our birth mom signed the papers and said goodbye to us as she left us to raise her son.
We felt so honored to be able to witness how much she loved and cared for her son. We watched her struggle for two days with how much she loved him and wanted to keep him. But after telling us this, she would also express how she wanted him to have a life that she just couldn’t provide for him. She showed amazing strength to be able to go through this and sign the papers. That’s strength that I will always admire and strive for. She is so amazing, and words can’t express how important Jonah’s birth mom is to us.
